The mission of the California Heritage Quilt Project was established at it's inception in 1984 and remains relevant to this day.
- To seek out and record the history of California quilts and quiltmakers.
-To foster conservation and preservation of California's quilt heritage.
-To increase public awareness and appreciation of quilts.
-To encourage the art of quilt making.
CHQP was very active from 1984 through 2014. Our previous Board President, Stephanie Kenney, kept the organization viable during a time of waning interest and continued it's mission on several fronts. Arlene Stevens and Rebecca Blosser joined the Board in September, 2021 and now new Board members have been found state wide to further the goals of the California Heritage Quilt Project.

The California Hertiage Quilt Project has been revived and is looking forward to continuing the Mission established in 1984.
We are honoring the work of the past and the projects that were so successful, such as the quilt documentation, oral histories and the children's program. Look for more projects as we grow in the coming months and years..
We have joined the Quilt Index in order to introduce the world to amazing quilts made in or brought to California. The Quilt Index, an open access, digital repository shares images, stories and information about quilts and their makers. This research and educational project, "Matrix: The Center for Digital Humanities and Social Services" is housed at Michigan State University. www.quiltindex.org
